Project

Evolution

Evolution is a PC and VR open-world MMO that combines RPG progression, exploration, resource management, crafting, territorial warfare, and social interaction. Players begin by choosing a location that shapes their abilities, appearance, resources, and early progression. As they develop their characters, build homes, gather resources, form alliances, and participate in wars and raids, the world itself continues to evolve through new Ages.

The work

About the project

Evolution is an ambitious open-world MMO developed as a long-term original game concept by Greatest Interactive.

Built in Unity for PC and VR, Evolution combines the freedom of an open world with RPG progression, player-driven economies, territorial conflict, crafting, exploration, and social interaction.

The defining idea behind Evolution is that the world does not remain static.

Every six months, the game can enter a new Age, introducing new technologies, resources, weapons, buildings, abilities, environments, and challenges.

Players don't simply progress through the game.

They progress with the world.

Choose Where Your Story Begins

Every player begins their journey by selecting a starting location.

Each location has its own culture, environment, resources, appearance, and abilities.

Your starting location influences the way you experience the early stages of the game.

For example, residents of Ultra City can develop the ability to control metal, giving them unique opportunities within exploration, crafting, combat, and resource management.

As players progress, their origins remain part of their identity while their abilities and equipment continue to develop.

Build Your Own Life

Evolution gives players more than a character to control.

Players can acquire land, construct homes, gather resources, craft equipment, and develop their own place within the world.

Housing can evolve alongside the player.

As new Ages introduce new materials and technologies, existing structures can be upgraded with new resources, designs, and functionality.

Your home becomes part of your progression and your presence within the world.

Gather, Craft & Trade

Resources are central to Evolution.

Players can gather materials from forests, environments, locations, and other sources throughout the world.

These resources can be used to create weapons, equipment, buildings, upgrades, and other items.

Players can also trade resources through marketplaces and in-game stores.

This creates an economy where gathering, crafting, trading, missions, and exploration all contribute to progression.

A World That Evolves

Evolution is built around the concept of Ages.

Every six months, the world can advance into a new Age.

A new Age can introduce new technologies, weapons, resources, buildings, abilities, environments, and gameplay systems.

A location that begins as a relatively simple settlement can eventually develop into a technologically advanced environment.

The progression of the world becomes part of the game's story.

Players who remain in the world across multiple Ages can experience its transformation firsthand.

Exploration

The world contains multiple biomes, locations, hidden areas, treasures, resources, and secrets.

Players can travel across the environment, discover new locations, complete quests, search for valuable resources, and encounter creatures and other players.

Dynamic weather and a day/night cycle help create a world that changes throughout the player's journey.

Different environments can also provide different resources and challenges.

PvE Combat

The world is populated by AI-controlled creatures and enemies.

Players can encounter wild animals, monsters, witches, and powerful boss creatures.

Different enemies have their own abilities, behaviors, challenges, and rewards.

PvE activities provide opportunities to gain resources, currency, equipment, experience, and other progression rewards.

PvP, Raids & Wars

Evolution also contains large-scale player conflict.

Players can form teams and guilds, conduct raids, compete for resources, and attack opposing locations.

Wars can become major events involving entire factions.

Leaders can organize campaigns with objectives that can include capturing territory, destroying structures, or forcing an opposing faction to surrender.

Victory can change the balance of power within the world.

Factions & Guilds

Players can form or join guilds and participate in larger faction-based activities.

Guilds provide a social structure for cooperative missions, resource gathering, raids, territorial conflicts, and wars.

Players can contribute to faction-wide objectives while developing their own characters and assets.

This creates a world where individual progression and group progression can exist alongside each other.

Multiplayer World

Evolution is designed as a real-time MMO environment.

Players can encounter one another throughout the world, communicate, form alliances, trade resources, complete missions together, and participate in large-scale conflicts.

Communication systems can include text chat and voice communication to support cooperation and social interaction.

The goal is to make other players a meaningful part of the world rather than simply placing multiplayer features around a single-player experience.

Character Progression

Players begin at level one and gradually unlock new abilities and skills.

Progression is influenced by the player's starting location, activities, resources, equipment, and choices throughout the game.

As players advance, they can gain access to more complex abilities and increasingly powerful equipment.

Character appearance can also evolve through clothing, equipment, customization, and progression.

An Expanding Economy

Currency can be earned through missions, exploration, raids, trading, and other activities.

Players can use their resources and currency to acquire housing, transportation, equipment, gadgets, upgrades, and other items.

Marketplaces provide opportunities for players to buy and sell resources and equipment.

This creates an economy connected to the wider gameplay loop rather than treating currency as a separate system.

A Living Environment

Evolution's world is designed to respond to the passage of time.

Weather can change.

Day becomes night.

Resources can vary between environments.

Technology develops.

Architecture changes.

New equipment becomes available.

Entire locations can evolve between Ages.

This creates a world where returning players can discover that the environment has changed since their previous visit.

PC & VR

Evolution is designed for both PC and VR.

The PC experience provides traditional keyboard, mouse, and controller-based interaction.

The VR experience is designed around immersive interaction with the world, with interfaces and controls adapted for virtual reality.

This allows the same broader universe to support different ways of experiencing the game.

Visual Direction

Evolution combines realistic and stylized visual elements to create a fantasy world that feels recognizable while still allowing room for imaginative locations and characters.

Each location can have its own visual identity through architecture, clothing, environments, resources, and character designs.

As the Ages progress, the visual identity of the world can change alongside its technology and culture.

Sound & Music

Sound design changes with the player's environment.

Ambient audio can reflect different biomes, weather conditions, locations, and times of day.

Combat produces distinct audio feedback for weapons, abilities, creatures, and environmental interactions.

The soundtrack can also respond to the player's location and the current events taking place within the world.

A peaceful exploration session can sound very different from a major faction war.

Monetization

Evolution is designed around optional purchases that can expand the player's experience without making the core world dependent on them.

Cosmetic items can provide additional customization through clothing, skins, and visual items.

Future expansions can introduce new Ages, locations, gameplay systems, and additional content.

A battle pass model can provide seasonal rewards, exclusive cosmetics, special events, and other optional benefits.

Development Vision

Evolution is designed as a long-term project.

Development begins with prototyping the core gameplay systems, character progression, resource management, world-building tools, and multiplayer foundations.

Production expands the world with locations, biomes, NPCs, combat systems, crafting, economy systems, and social features.

Testing focuses on gameplay balance, server stability, multiplayer performance, and player feedback.

The goal is to build a strong foundation that can support the game's long-term evolution.

The Future Of Evolution

The world can continue expanding through new Ages.

Each Age can introduce new technologies, environments, factions, resources, abilities, weapons, missions, and challenges.

New locations can appear.

Existing locations can transform.

New factions can emerge.

Seasonal events can create temporary changes within the world.

Community feedback can also influence future development and help shape the direction of the game.

Our Vision

Evolution is our concept for a multiplayer world that grows alongside its players.

We want players to feel that their choices, relationships, achievements, territories, homes, and battles contribute to a larger history.

The world they enter at the beginning should not be the same world they experience years later.

Evolution is built around that idea:

A world that changes.

Characters that grow.

Civilizations that develop.

And players who become part of the history of the world.
